A little background

of our company

Cape Town Hunting Safaris & Tours (CTHS) is based in one of the most diverse and beautiful cities in the world, Cape Town, South Africa. Offering BIG GAME hunting, PLAINS GAME hunting, BIRD hunting and TOURING or a combination thereof, tailored to suite your desires, throughout Southern Africa.

CTHS was established by Joe Da Silva who has been in the hunting and touring industry since the early 80's supported by his Taxidermist wife, Nicole. Joe has hunted and toured with clients from all over the world; in South Africa, Botswana, Zambia, Mozambique, Namibia and Zimbabwe.

As to Joe's background, he started off in the firearms industry, owning the well-known gun dealership, Parow Arms & Ammo. Joe has subsequently sold the business to become a fulltime Hunting Outfitter. In addition to this, Joe is also a qualified International Firearms Instructor and still conducts classes when he not busy on a safari.

Joe and Nicole are qualified Professional Hunters and Joe is also a licenced Outfitter. They are also qualified and registered tour guides for the Department of Economic Development and Tourism of South Africa. Both are official measures for Rowland Ward and Joe is an official measure for S.C.I.

Joe is passionate about his bird hunting, being one of the first to professionally start bird hunting in the Cape, and today it has become one of the greatest destinations to hunt birds in South Africa. Joe's hunting buddy, Cruisa, is as passionate in retrieving downed birds. Joe gets great pleasure in seeing his dog work for his clients. Big Game hunting and Plains Game hunting are another love of Joe's and he enjoys the challenge of getting his clients the trophies they want.

CTHS are proud members of S.C.I. (Safari Club International), I.P.H.A. (International Professional Hunters Association), P.H.A.S.A. (Professional Hunters Association of South Africa for over 28 years) and Dallas Safari Club (Life Member).

Nicole owns her own fully import/export registered taxidermy business, Buck 'n Bass Taxidermy. She started her taxidermy business in 2001, running a professional operation and doing outstanding work, exporting to anywhere in the world. Nicole is also a keen hunter who has hunted over 20 different species including big game.

Joe and Nicole have had the privilege in hosting some wonderful people and also some famous people. We would like to make special mention of a few who have spent the time hunting and touring with us:
Brigadier General Chuck Yeager, and his wife Victoria, the first man to break the sound barrier on the 14th of October 1947.
Astronaut Charlie Duke, and his wife Dottie, of Apollo 16 who was the youngest man and the 10th man to walk on the moon.
Vinnie Jones, famous Wimbledon soccer player and actor in Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch and others.
"The Last Stand", George Digweed, one of the world's greatest sporting shooters with over 20 world titles.
Bill Weiss, who has hunted in Africa over 42 times and has hunted the big 5 with both a handgun and a rifle twice.
Joe also has had the privilege to meet Dr Lt. General Mikhail Kalashnikov (Mr AK 47) and sit and talk to him about his life.
Joe and Nicole were also privileged to hunt with Ze Pardal on his last elephant hunt. He wrote a fascinating limited edition book "Hunting Elephant in Portuguese East Africa".
Joe is extremely privileged and honoured at having such good friends as Adelino Serra Pires famous for starting one of the biggest hunting operations in Mozambique called Safrique. He wrote an incredible book of his hunting encounters throughout Africa called "Winds of Havoc".
Adelino's lovely wife, Fiona Claire Capstick, famed in her own right as the author of the award winning "Diana Files" and "Between Two fires". Fiona's late husband was the well-known hunting author, Peter Hathway Capstick.

This is just the taste of our inside story, Joe and Nicole can fill you in on the rest around a nice open fire with a good glass of Cape wine... Arrive as clients and leave as friends.

To sum it all up, we have saying... "we don't compete with others, we only compete with ourselves".

We look forward to seeing you on your next Africa trip.

Good Hunting and Touring
Joe and Nicole Da Silva
